Renewing our Denomination

DHPC has entered a period of discernment as it relates to our future as a member church of PC(USA).  We believe that the actions of the denomination in recent years conflict with our own Statement of Beliefs as supported by Scripture.

To find out why, and as importantly what DHPC is doing about it, click on any of the different documents or links below.

ECHOES SPECIAL EDITION

This document was sent by DHPC's Session to Presbytery and all members of DHPC, and it's an excellent snapshot into the heart of DHPC today.

UNDERSTANDING CHURCH POLITY

The Presbyterian Church functions simiarly to our secular governments here in the U.S.  In order to make effective change, we must work in the system.  PC(USA) recently published a simple overview for how this system works in our denomination to bring about effective change.

In the event than any of the terms used below are confusing, THIS ARTICLE is a great place to start.

OVERTURES FOR 2010 GENERAL ASSEMBLY

In an effort to renew the denomination's focus on the basic tenets of Reformed Theology, DHPC is seeking to put four overtures up for vote at PC(USA)'s General Assembly.

LETTER SENT TO LOCAL PRESBYTERY CHURCH LEADERS

In order to reach for floor of the 2010 General Assembly for discussion and deliberation, our overtures must first be voted through by the churches in the local Presbytery.

In advance of the January vote, DHPC drafted a letter to all Clerks of Session in the Presybtery, outlining DHPC's position.  The intent was to inform the Sessions about the recent actions of DHPC and to prayerfully consider standing with DHPC in January.

INTERIM PRESBYTER'S THOUGHTS ABOUT DHPC'S PERIOD OF DISCERNMENT

On March 24, 2010, Dr. David H. Wasserman, the Interim Executive Presbyter of Grand Canyon Presbytery, graciously appeared by invitation to speak to DHPC's congregation.  The primary topics for discussion included the vision for the Prebytery and the denomination as a whole, as well as DHPC's recent period of discernment.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION OUTLINING SOME OF OUR DIFFERENCES

In 2008 and 2009, DHPC assembled a Connectional Team to present information to the congregation about what was seen as a deepening divide between DHPC and PC(USA).
