DHPC was founded more than 40 years ago in 1967 by K.T. Palmer, the founder of Carefree,Arizona. Palmer selected and donated the uniquely-beautiful 7.5 acres that makes up the church campus at the base of the famous rock formation that gave the adjacent the resort "The Boulders" its name.
The first charter members met in homes, the Carefree Inn and a shop on Easy Street in downtown Carefree, but the congregation quickly outgrew each setting. Construction began on a small sanctuary that was dedicated in 1972. In 1981 the separate Christian Education annex was added beside the Sanctuary to better meet the small church's growing needs.
As membership increased, more space was needed, and the current 500-seat Sanctuary building was dedicated to the glory of God on Easter Sunday, 1989. A continuing need for more office space and Sunday school classrooms led to the completion of the current office and classroom complex adjacent to the Sanctuary in 1996.
In the years since, the surrounding communities that DHPC supported changed drastically as the Phoenix metropolitan area spread northward, bringing many new families and retirees to the area looking to establish meaningful relationships and orient their lives around Christ.
The original Sanctuary and Christian Education Annex buildings, since in operation and serving as Fellowship Hall and the Youth building, were leveled and replaced with a brand-new, state-of-the art multipurpose facility that opened in March of 2008. This facility allowed the church to better meet the needs of its true lifecycle congregation, as well as open up new and exciting opportunities for outreach and support for the communities
DHPC serves.
