 For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me;
I was in prison and you came to me."(Matthew 25:35-36)

These words of Jesus remind us that we can serve Him by responding to the simplest of human needs.  Here you will find the organizations that Desert Hills Presbyterian Church supports through financial aid and volunteer hours.

Leupp Presbyterian Church

DHPC is privileged to have a sister church in the Navajo Nation.  Since 1980 this unique friendship has developed into a strong Christian bond.  Leupp members visit our church in the fall for a weekend of fellowship.  DHPC hosts a fund raising bazaar for Leupp members to sell handcrafted jewelry and other items to benefit their church.  They also share their faith and heritage with us at our Sunday worship services.  In turn, we visit Leupp in the spring for a similar weekend of fellowship.  Several volunteer opportunities are available here, especially for the fall activities, when DHPC members host our Navajo brothers and sisters in their homes, as well as provide food for various meals.

Ecumenical Chaplaincy for the Homeless

Chaplain and DHPC member Dave Goodall works to help the homeless obtain identification documents, often a first step toward getting jobs and housing.   In addition to financial support, DHPC volunteers help assemble hygiene kits which are distributed from the chaplain's office.

Habitat for Humanity
A non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing organization that builds affordable housing for those in need.  A four-plex condominium has recently been build in Cave Creek.  Volunteer opportunities include providing construction materials, labor, or even lunch for hungry work crews.

Foothills Food Bank
Provides groceries for local people who have nowhere else to turn when they are in crisis.  Our church is generous in keeping their cupboards stocked.

Westside Food Bank
Our church provides volunteer hours packaging food for those in need.

Desert Foothills Medical Emergency Fund
This fund was founded by our church and helps children and adults in our area get needed medical and dental help by providing initial payments for treatment.   Those who receive assistance pay back the funds as they are able.

D.U.C.K- Downtown Urban Community Kids

DUCK is a Christian after-school and summer program for at-risk children in underprivileged neighborhoods of Phoenix.  Our church began the program in 1995 in conjunction with Historic First Church and continues to support it with financial help.  This ambitious program for kids from kindergarten through high school has a number of volunteer opportunities, ranging from regular activities such as helping with homework, to special activities such as the Christmas Shop.

Youth Corps, Ethiopia
This exciting ministry in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is providing mentors for young people to help educate them to provide leadership in a country which has suffered famine, war, and years of Communist rule.  Abraham Fiseha, the leader of this awesome group, has visited DHPC several times and has developed a very strong relationship with us.   In addition to financial support, members of our congregation have visited Ethiopia to help first hand with this organization.

Boy Scout Troop 603
This troop meets weekly at our church and receives a yearly grant from DHPC.
